A seasonal piano adventure
Santa’s magical hat is missing! But who took it? Help Charlie, the Elf Detective, search for clues and rule out the elf suspects one by one to solve the case. Only music theory knowledge will help you find the thief!
Primer level piano
There are five seasonal favourites to learn on the piano, including a ‘Tango with Jolly Old St. Nicholas’ and ‘Not Quite Silent Night’. Some of the tunes are faithful to the original whereas others have a twist (sometimes in the teacher accompaniment). The note range is ideal for beginner learners and covers the five finger position around middle C.
Music theory puzzles
There are clues hidden in the music theory puzzles. Find out who was at ‘Jingle Jangle Bell Ringing’ practice and which elf was ‘Up on the Housetop’ repairing the sleigh and couldn’t have taken Santa’s hat. Includes mazes, match ups, colouring puzzles, and much more.
The puzzles use music theory students might encounter in their first year or two of learning, such as time signatures of 2, 3 and 4 beats in a bar/measure and simple note/rest values of half, 1,2,3 or 4 beats. Questions vary from identifying note names, adding missing bar lines, musical maths, to matching signs to meanings.
The book is aimed at the beginner learner and level wise is equivalent to the first part of a Primer level book. This series can be used alongside any piano method book as a supplement to learning.
How to solve the case
Budding piano detectives rule out suspects in their ‘Case Files’ one by one to reveal the thief. A QR code leads to the solution to check if students solved the case, and there is a colourful certificate at the back of the book for successful investigators.
