Sshh! Don’t wake the ‘Sleeping Dragons’ in this music theory game!

Last week I was teaching a beginner student about time signatures. They love fairytales and dragons so it was time to load up the tablet and press play!

In this game students have to help William the Wizard safely reach the castle in the clouds without waking up the dozing dragons. They have rather inconveniently placed themselves in his path so poor William has quite a tricky journey ahead! He can get away with waking one , even two, but three dragons and it’s game over.

Teachers can completely customise the questions. There are draggable notes to move onto the stave (1, 2, 3 and 4 beats) plus time signatures of 2, 3, and 4 beats in a bar to choose from.

Set any question you wish from adding the missing time signature, figuring out how many beats are missing in a bar, or even make musical maths questions with the draggable + signs. You might even want to set note naming or interval based questions.

Once the question has been answered, pick a score and then roll the dice to see how far William will move. But cross your fingers he doesn’t land on a dragon!

Sleeping Dragons is part of a set of customisable games for music teachers. Go on a ‘Treasure Hunt’ on a deserted island, help Bob win the heart of the Princess, or watch out for ‘Spooky Sid’ in the abandoned castle. All these games and more can be found in a ‘Presto’ Teacher membership at Learnatune Games, which includes over 160 music games.
