ABRSM GRADE 1 THEORY LEVEL
The spaceship ‘Allegro 3’ was exploring the ‘Tempo Galaxy’ when it disappeared in an asteroid storm. Can you head the rescue mission and find Captain Harvey and his crew? Only music theory will help you put the planet map together and complete the mission in this mystery adventure.

A musical journey
Colourful, interactive and engaging, Space Rescue is ideal for students who have been learning a little while (during the first few years of learning) and can be used alongside any method of study. Music theory is everywhere, from the names of the planets to the controls on the spaceship.
This newest ship in the fleet is controlled by an instruction manual written in “music”, causing great confusion amongst the crew! Will students be able to take the trash out or even fix the coffee machine?! Only theory will help.
The Tempo Galaxy
Once they have taken off, budding musical detectives follow the last known locations of the ‘Allegro 3’ before it disappeared, ruling out planets one by one and constructing a map of the Tempo Galaxy. All the planets are named after tempo words such as ‘Planet Adagio’ and ‘Planet Andante’, making it a great way for students to learn common terms they may find in their sheet music.
There is a musical alien language to decipher and a ‘Key Signature Portal’ to figure out which brings on odd symptoms like a ‘flat’ tongue and a ‘sharp’ tingling in the toes. Only the right medicine will help the sufferer return to their ‘natural’ self!
Music theory topics
Music theory topics include time signatures, key signatures, major scales, tonic triads, intervals (numbers only), time values, treble and bass clefs, music signs and terms, accidentals, tones and semitones, and degrees of the scale. It follows the same syllabus as ABRSM grade one syllabus but is ideal for use with any method of study.
