A pop band piano adventure
It’s the day of auditions for a new band at the Dragonfly Talent Agency. Guitarists are grooving and drummers are rocking out to the beat, hoping to get their big break. But after an unfortunate incident, poor Anna the assistant has got herself into a right mess. Papers scattered everywhere, she has no idea who made it into the band!
Follow the clues in the theory puzzles and learn the piano tunes to figure out which audition hopefuls were rejected and who got into the band. Can you help Anna keep her job?
Level 2 piano with backing tracks!
Each of the five piano tunes to learn include a piano accompaniment part for the teacher. There is also a link inside the book to access fun backing tracks to play along with the actual band!
The level of difficulty is equivalent to book two of a series like Faber’s Piano Adventures. Music is played hands together with some movement into different hand positions during each tune. It also includes sharps and flats (but no key signatures). A big feature is the use of two note chords and the recognition of intervals such as a 5th. A tune like ‘Rock that Bass’, for example, uses the 5th chord to give a rock style feel.
Five piece band
Each piano tune is also written after one of the instruments in the band. Feel the grooving drum beat in ‘Count Me In’, and listen out for the flowing keyboard melodies in ‘Midnight Shadows’. Don’t forget to rock those accents along with the bass guitar in ‘Rock that Bass’!
Music theory puzzles
There are clues hidden in the music theory puzzles. Find out who caused a small power cut when they plugged their guitar in and which keyboard player got lost on the way to the venue. Help Anna decipher her audition notes along the way, as you complete mazes, match ups, colouring puzzles, and much more.
The puzzles use music theory students might encounter after a year or two of learning, such as time signatures of 2, 3 and 4 beats in a bar/measure and simple note/rest values of half, 1,2,3 or 4 beats. Questions vary from understanding rules about accidentals, identifying intervals and note names, adding missing bar lines, musical maths, to matching signs to meanings.
The level of this book is equivalent to a level two method book. This series can be used alongside any piano method book as a supplement to learning.
How to solve the case
Budding piano detectives put the clues together to form the correct band. A QR code leads to the solution to check if students solved the case, and there is a colourful certificate at the back of the book for successful investigators.
