Who Stole My Pumpkin? is a fun mini mystery adventure for beginner piano. Learn the tunes and solve the music theory puzzles to crack the case and work out who stole Betty Harper’s pumpkin!
A spooky seasonal piano adventure
It was the night of Betty’s Halloween party and all her guests were dressed up in their best spooky costumes. Some friends were helping decorate the house, a small group were getting ready to greet the trick or treaters, and others were dancing to spooky ghoulish music.
Earlier that day, Betty won the prize for best carved pumpkin at school. She put the pumpkin in the kitchen and went off to enjoy the party. But when Betty returned, the pumpkin had gone! Only music skills will help you figure out who took it.
Primer level piano
There are three ghostly tunes to learn (all with teacher accompaniment) including ‘Pumpkin Mash’, ‘Trick or Treat’ and ‘Black Cat Boo’. The note range is around Middle C and is ideal for beginner learners.
Music theory puzzles
There are clues hidden in the music theory puzzles. Find out who was greeting the trick or treaters and couldn’t have stolen the pumpkin, and follow the spiders maze to see who was putting up cobweb decorations. Includes mazes, match ups, colouring puzzles, and much more.
The puzzles use music theory students might encounter in their first year or two of learning, such as time signatures of 2, 3 and 4 beats in a bar/measure and simple note/rest values of 1,2,3 or 4 beats. Questions vary from checking time signatures, identifying musical signs and note names, naming piano keys, and musical maths puzzles.
The book is aimed at the beginner learner and level wise is equivalent to the first part of a Primer level book. This series can be used alongside any piano method book as a supplement to learning.
How to solve the case
Budding piano detectives rule out suspects in their ‘Case Files’ one by one to reveal the thief. All the suspects are dressed in their best Halloween costumes! A QR code leads to the solution to check if students solved the case, and there is a colourful certificate at the back of the book for successful investigators.
